Description

ES106 Environment and Society 3 Credits
This course will consider the human dimensions of environmental problems. Many environmental problems are rooted in human social organization and institutions, yet these same institutions are also the source of the solutions. The organizations of our economic system, our legal system, as well as our basic culture and values, all influence the actions we take which can either benefit or harm the environment. We first will examine the contributions of each disciplinary area to our environmental problems and solutions, and then we will dissect several contemporary environmental problems to see how these perspectives interact. Finally, we will work with local community members to understand their views on current environmental problems, and to discuss solutions.
