American muslims are being compared to European muslims. (only an example of demographic group US compared to Europe is the real comparison).
- 1% of population in US is muslim.
- 4.5% of pop. in Britain and in Germany.
- Higher percentages in Europe is due to close proximity to where muslims reside.

- Factor: EU has made these countries like Britain and Germany more boarder-less. This is because they are trying to grow their economy, it promotes businesses.
- Countries in Europe is smaller (1% of muslims in US equals 4-5% of muslims in Europe. We are around five times as big).
- Muslims from 77 countries live in America. Colonialism is a factor that draws in more muslims for potential jobs.
This is important because the geographic diversity of muslims in Europe is lesser than in US.
- They would speak the same language and shared heritage in Europe. They could have less similarities in the US because there are 77 different types.
- Stronger sense of communal identity of muslims in Europe than in the US. More cohesive unit of muslims in Europe.
- Lebanese came to US because of Civil wars in their country, Iranians came because of the new power regime in the 1980's.

- American muslims as a result of the diversity of the muslims in the US makes them more tolerant than those in Europe.

- American muslims are better of than European muslims. European muslims are more poor than US muslims.
- Lots of muslims live in "suburbs" in European cities. These suburbs aren't like US suburbs, much poorer and high population of low income residents.
