Description

MC281 Understanding Film 3 credits
Examines film as a cultural text, focusing on aspects such as genre, movement, and style. Students will learn how to identify and describe the key formal elements of a film, including scriptwriting, story structure, character development, cinematography, editing, and sound. Students will examine how each of these elements contributes to influencing the viewing experience. Films screened are primarily classical American films, but current Hollywood, experimental, or international films may also be included. Addresses GLE Learning Outcomes Arts and Design (AD), Critical Thinking (CT) and Oral Communication (OC). Prerequisite: GLE110.
