I have been encouraging Eco Club to apply for a grant through WalMart “Facility Giving Program”, in which individual stores give awards of between $250 and $2500 to projects that serve their surrounding communities. Eco Club discussed this at their last meeting, and would use the funds to establish an additional raised bed (or two) to raise food for hungry people in our community, in cooperation with the Community Kitchen’s gleaning program
. The Community Kitchen is on board, and suggested they could arrange for food to be delivered directly to Rindge and other nearby food pantries.
Unfortunately, Eco Club is in a probationary period for fall semester, as nearly all of last year's elected leaders stepped down in September. Another group needs to take the lead on this. Sustainable Lifestyle Housing seems like a good fit, and I can steer them if there is interest - but perhaps other Council members know of a class, office, or cohort that could use a project like this?
Your input, please. :)
